Group Members: Edwin, Angela, and Sam Issue: Global Infectious Diseases Topic: Tuberculosis in Rural China Period: Humanities 2 Organization and Action Plan Brainstorm Now that you have completed a case study it is time for you to create your own organization and an action plan for your topic! Fill in the information below and post the document on you Wiki. Part One: Developing Your Action Plan Your action plan should include the following: 1. The name of your organization CAT (China's Association for Tuberculosis) 2. Your specific topic Our specific topic is tuberculosis in Rural China. 3. The purpose- Why are you doing this action? We want to bring better care and treatment to Rural China and in the process, we will also be educating about the disease in order to decrease the number of deaths resulting from tuberculosis as well as drug resistant strains. 4. The message- Why should people be informed about this issue? People should be aware of this issue because in Rural China, people lack the facilities needed to provide treatment and care for those who have contracted tuberculosis. 5. A goal- make sure this is a project that can be done and hopefully continued Our goal is to increase the knowledge of tuberculosis as a disease and about the predicament of the lack of facilities in Rural China to China’s population. 6. A short-term plan for achieving your goal (keep it simple and don’t be too ambitious- again make sure you CAN actually do this) We wish to start with SAS and hope that the 8th grade students can understand this issue. We can take a survey on what students know about tuberculosis. We can then use the survey to figure out what people lack knowledge on and focus on those points to educate about. We will teach these aspects of the goal to 8th grade. The more people know, the more likely they will stand up and spread the word to wherever they go, whomever they meet. Once people know that they have to continue with treatment, they might have an idle conversation about that, and the facts will spread to help prevent drug-resistant strains. Also, then as SAS students have knowledge about symptoms and what you should do when you contract the disease, the knowledge will once again spread to help decrease deaths. If we also educate about the predicament of rural china and tuberculosis, then eventually, more people will be aware of this problem and together, we can stand up to the government to demand more facilities in rural china.
Technology is a great tool used in education. We plan to make a video as well, that may be a great introduction to our presentations. The video will be informative, as well as sentimental. The music is commisioned to Mr.Hanrich Claassen to compose, with the orchestration being for a violin solo (Sam Wu), a cello solo (Max Chen (TBC)), and a piano solo/ accompaniment (Jacob Choy). Further details will be discussed in the near future. 7. A long-term plan for achieving your goal We will advocate as we get older to the government will be unlikely to listen to a bunch of kids. As we get older, we may visit schools to help educate the students as they will take the knowledge with them to future generations. We will also continue to raise awareness on the lack of treatment and knowledge in rural china. Eventually, when we are adults, we will probably protest to the government to the lack of treatment in rural areas with more people on our sides.
8. Resources needed for this action plan We will need the surveys and knowledge to spread to China. 9. Division of responsibilities- who will do what? Sam will write the survey.Edwin will survey people.Angela will analyze the survey (This means Angela will be looking at the surveys and figuring out what people lack knowledge in).We will work together to create the presentation for the conference to help with educating and raising awareness.
